Normally I spend my days searching for new artists to rave about; based on my research I write a quick article telling readers why they should listen to pop rock, singer/song-writer or a band. However, this time I get to search the music, listen to the artist’s incredibly unique voice and talent while having the privilege to ask a few questions. Grayce, whom I may very soon use as my Artist On The Rise was kind enough to answer a few questions for me. After listening to a few of her songs like; “Downfall”, “Pull the Trigger”, and “I Love You… But”, I couldn’t help but wonder what her story was. I wanted to know what drives this incredible woman to such wonderful creation and how her journey towards the limelights has been thus far. Her fans, myself included will impatiently await her next release. We wish her nothing but the best, and hhope that Catchmyear will have the pleasure of raving about her music very soon.
How long did this project take for you to complete?
This project took less than a week to record everything! It was a tight budget situation so it was very time conscious! As for mixing and mastering that took about a month to perfect all the different sounds and instruments.
I hope I don’t get too personal when I ask this but, was this your way of dealing with the emotions and heartbreak?
I think all music helps you deal with any emotions you are feeling at that time in your life. For me, this album was a reflective one. I had heartache but that doesn’t always have to be with a loved one. For it was people I had been working with at that time and the struggles that come with the music industry.
Truthfully? None of them. Let me clarify! That is not because all of them were so easy and effortless. There was no difficulty recording because making this EP was a complete dream come true. No complaints, no difficulties, just bliss.
How long does it take to perfect each song?
It varies! Some songs you can complete and “perfect” in 15 minutes! Others take more attention. That was the case for “Downfall”. The minute Natania Lalwani (www.NataniaMusic.com) and I involved the insanely talented Anika Paris (www.AnikaParisMusic.com) the song was transformed. By adding Anika to the writing team it enhanced the song lyrically, structurally and even emotionally! She has such a gift for hearing parts and giving the music a truthful voice.
Is there anything you’re working on at the moment?
Yes! Thank you for asking! I’ve been writing non-stop and I’m hoping to release a single very soon! You can hear this new material on my new channel; youtube.com/ GrayceMusic1. I’ve been uploading CoffeeCupCovers, Studio sessions and live footage from my shows. If I release another music video you can find that on my GrayceVEVO account. In the New Year, I’m hoping to release an album so stay tuned!
When I heard “I Love You…But” I felt like I was flowing in a river of uncertainty, unsure of what to do in the case of love. Would that be something you experienced when writing this song?
Wow, thank you so much! Yes! That was exactly the thought process when writing this song. I wrote it with my writing partner, Natania Lalwani. The minute we connected a visual “wide awake dreaming of a window” with an emotion “to tell you I’m not happy anymore” we felt it conveyed what I was feeling at that time.
Also if I may, people say that a great song arises from the worst heartaches, would you agree?
I definitely think heartache makes writing easier. I have to admit though; I am someone that is very comfortable writing depressing songs no matter how great things are going for me! For some reason I feel more vulnerable writing about happiness. What does it all mean?! The truth about heartache is, no matter how much time passes, when you bring it up those feelings come back. This means that even if you’ve moved on, you never forget the ache that can come with heartbreak.
Can we keep our fingers crossed that we’ll get to hear another great creation from you?
Please keep your fingers crossed! I promise there is lots of music coming your way! For now, be sure to check out my new YouTube channel (GrayceMusic1) for a sneak peek of what’s to come. Thank you so much for having me Catch My Ear!
