Yep, that’s right. I missed a Monday post again. But I have a darn good reason. I was taking a much needed swing dance weekend (Last one was over a year ago,) and I just drove into town today in time to pickup my kids from school! I don’t have the words to describe the awesomeness of a Lindy hop weekend to nondancers. In fact, nondancers might not think it awesome at all. You just have to experience the music, dancing, energy, people, and community to understand.
But wait, maybe you can understand… The closest description to a Lindy Hop weekend is a writing conference, except with music and dancing. Lots and lots of dancing.
By Sunday afternoon I had that last session brain fog which anyone who’s attending a writing conference can understand. Your brain is fried, your body is tired from a lack of sleep. The only difference is that with a dancing weekend, you’re not only engaging your mind, but your body as well, so it really helps cut down on the conference weight gain! All the extras that come with a writing conference also come with a dancing “conference.” Amazing instructors/dance professionals teach beginning, intermediate, and advance classes. (Click here to have a taste of our Saturday classes) Staying up way too late with friends, old and new is also part of the course. Plus, dancers get to dress up, too.
Dancers also have contests beginners and seasoned dancers can participate in. But in addition, dance weekends have well… dances, live music, and performances! This weekend was Southern Fried Swing only a couple of hours away from me. I’m definitely putting it on my calendar for next year.
My only regret is that I didn’t take more photos! But I guess that could be considered a good thing because I was too busy dancing!
I am so blessed to be part of two great communities. The writing community and dancing community. They both recharge me in different ways, and I wouldn’t give up either of them for anything.
