Internet Sessions

Trolling through the many posts within Whirlpool, it is interesting to read what some readers think of the various unlimited mobile plans available today. In particular what they think of the large data quotas on offer.

3GB, 4GB, 5GB the quotas are getting higher and higher. We are obviously hungry for data. iPhones, Android phones, iPads, Sumsung Tablets, the list goes on for devices waiting to suck up all of the data quota you have.

However the comments on the forum are a little cautious of what is actually available. Amaysim has been a huge success story here in Australia. The traffic I send to Amaysim via my site is huge as a percentage of total traffic, yet as with everything in life, no offer is quite perfect.

The feedback or talk in Whirlpool is that whilst the Amaysim offer of 3GB+ data is great, the fact that increments are counted in MB really dampens the deal. Amaysim is not the only one. Optus, Boost Mobile, in cases Vodafone, Woolworths Mobile all have per MB sessions.

The challenge with large quotas and per Megabyte increments is that depending on how you use your device and in-fact how it uses the net and what applications you have on your phone, your GBs might not actually last you very long.  It all comes down to how often your device creates a new session whilst accessing the internet as each of these sessions will cost you atleast 1MB.

Consider comments from “The Whirpooler

A data session could be defined as your data connection to a tower. If your phone turns off, then you will loose your data connection which means you will start another one…….

Also if you loose signal or your phone switches over to 2G/3G, this will also cut your data session. Say you only use 0.2MB but your data session closes, you will be deducted 1MB. I know it sucks!

To put this into perspective, with 3GB of data, you have 3000 “sessions” to play with and granted some of these may actually be more than 1MB so it might not be that much, but even if they were all 2MB you would have 1500. That is 50 connections each day of the month. It is still is quote a few. Most people would never come anywhere near this number.

Finding a data offer with per KB increments would be best. They are around, you just need to look a little harder and compromise a little, maybe on price, the offer and even service.
