#InspireMonday: What Women Want

By Dr Gbenga Adebayo @dradebayo

Happy Monday!

There is the old joke of a man meeting a genie and on getting to know he had the obligatory 3 wishes the genie must grant him, his first wish was for the genie to build a bridge that he could use to drive from Africa to America.  The genie balked at that request and said the logistics of granting such a request was astronomical. He persuaded the man to withdraw the request and make another one. The man agreed, took some time to think and requested the genie to make him understand what women want. On hearing this, the genie changed his tune, he said to the man, “…that bridge to America you wanted, do you want it to be 2 lanes or 4 lanes?”

Many men (some would say even women themselves) profess their confusion on divining exactly what women want. For many years as a youngster, I also believed women were a mysterious phenomenon. With age,  the wisdom of God and close interaction with scores of women, I believe I have cracked the code. I think I know what  (most) women (in the context of a loving relationship with a man) want. I believe it boils down to 3 things:

  1. Women want intimacy: Many men trip up on this. It makes sense to most men that If I showed you I love you last month and  nothing significant has changed between now and then, it stands to reason that I still love you today. Well not exactly so. For women, last month is gone. Today is today. Intimacy is a present continuous affair. If you like, we can call it “intimacying” (pardon my french). The feeling of being dear and special per second is central to this concept. Your ability to anticipate and pleasantly surprise is also important here.
  2. Women want security: Money greatly helps in this department. Women want to know they (and by extension their children) are safe. Many women will endure great indignity simply because of the promise of security. Happy are you if you provide this.
  3. Women want a sweet tongue: Being well gifted in this department can greatly help to cover up for shortcomings in other departments.

I celebrate all the women in my life. Without them, life would be very bland and boring indeed.

I would be glad to here from you.  What do you think of my list of what women want?
