Title: Sanka hakuu (Thunderstorm Beneath the Summit) Date: 1826 -1833 Location: Mount Fuji, Japan Artist: Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) Type of art: print (woodcut) One of the most famous Japanese artists in history, (Katsushika) Hokusai created 30,000 paintings, sketches, woodblock prints, and book illustrations in his 7-decade career. He helped broaden the scope of the ukiyo-e genre and used over 30 pseudonyms. Hokusai has influenced many artists, including Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Note: Also known as Black Fuji, this print is one of Hokusai’s most recognizable pieces.It is part of his Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series. Source and information: Library of Congress
