Indiana Blogs: Quirky Britches

Quirky Britches is an Indiana blog that loves fashion and everything that goes with it!

As you may have guessed from the name, it’s a very fun read and, well, quirky!

More than fashion, you’ll find a playful blogger that loves books, banter, and being in bed by 9 PM. Kidding aside, I think you’ll enjoy a look into this week’s Featured Hoosier Blogger.

Indiana Blogs: Quirky Britches

Why did you start Quirky Britches?
Technically I’ve been blogging for years, as I have started many blogs in the past but have always abandoned them; however, my blogs never really had purpose or focus. Finally, in September 2012, I decided that since I had love for so many fashion blogs and an obvious love for fashion myself, that maybe I had found my niche and thus started Quirky Britches.

Since then, I’ve mainly stuck with fashion but have expanded my blog to other areas of my life as well (food, banter, general musings, and sometimes even videos).

What about that name? Why Quirky Britches?
Oh man, coming up with a name was actually so hard for me because I didn’t want to come up with something weird and then regret it later; I’m also a very indecisive person in general.

Originally, I wanted to be called Quirky Pants because I have a thing for adding “pants” to everything (Sassy Pants, Cutie Pants, etc.), but I discovered another blog with too similar of a name. I broke out my synonyms and came up with britches (which sort of works too since my name is Brittney).

As soon I started though, I already broke my cardinal rule and ended up hating it; however, now I think it’s just weird enough that I’ve embraced the name.

What are three of your most favorite posts?
I tend to think everything I write is pretty weird, awkward, and only sometimes amazing (ahem), but these are three of my favorite posts:

  • “DIY” Fancy Sweatshirt…Hit or Miss? (one of my most pinned outfits)
  • Why I’m Bad at Getting Massages
  • 6 Ways to Help Soothe the Winter Drearies

What keeps you ready and raring to post? Why do you blog?
Since I’m mostly fashion based, posts sort of create themselves since (ideally) I have to wear clothes every day, but really, any time a weird little idea enters my brain, I’ll probably just blurt it out on my blog. I’m unpredictable in that way.

What can people expect when they hop onto your blog?
I’d like to think that the title alone prepares people for my weird little world, but I also like to think that you never quite know what you’ll get when you type in my URL.

Like my “About Me” page says, “My life tends to be a roller coaster (what with quietly reading books and getting into bed promptly by 9), so strap yourselves in; it’s going to be an underwhelming time.”

You are a former English teacher and now a fashion blogger! What’s your favorite fashion tip?
Getting dressed for school (as a teacher) was hard for me. I knew that I needed to dress professionally, but I refused to lose my identity and personal style.  Admittedly, sometimes I may have dressed a little too casually, but over time, I think I developed a professional style that balanced out nicely (see here, here, and here).

My favorite overall fashion tip is to wear what you love but wear it well, meaning just because you love a piece, doesn’t mean that it’s going to automatically flatter your body. Play up your assets because when you look good, you feel good. That being said, that doesn’t mean you can’t alter pieces to make them fit you well!

Is there any can’t live without item that you just can’t help but buy when you see it?
Not necessarily an item, but a pattern: stripes. I always gravitate towards stripes; I just can’t help it!

Just the other day, I bought a navy and white striped sweater dress AND a red and black striped dress. Did a need TWO new striped dresses? Absolutely not, but I did it anyway. Stripes, stripes, stripes; I love stripes! Stripes.

The groundhog says “winter” and, based on the weather we’ve been having, I can’t help but agree! Even so, what do you think will be “in” for Spring this year?
Funny you should mention the groundhog because I actually got engaged in Punxsutawney on Groundhog Day 2012, but to answer the question, can I say stripes again?! I’ll wear stripes any season, but I was just reading something the other day, and I’d have to say I’m most excited about wide-leg trousers and tea length skirts.

Is there anything else that you would like little Indiana readers to know about you or your blog?
Like I used to tell my students, my goal is to only bore you half to death, so if you’re at all entertained, then I’m doing my job well.

And, just like that, I feel the need to jazz up my wardrobe! Thanks to Quirky Britches for the style talk today!
