According to the new education policy approved by the government led by Narendra Modi, students in India will learn coding as a subject as early as grade 6. Typically 6th grade students are around 10-11 years old. The goal of teaching programming skills in schools is to help them acquire 21st century skills.
The announcement was made by officials from the Ministry of Education at a press conference attended by Union Minister Prakash Javadekar.
The world is advancing strongly in the field of technology, and many jobs today require coding skills from applicants. So, with the future in mind, programming skills can ensure greater exposure to technical knowledge at an early stage and help students progress easily if they wish to undertake an upcoming technical career.
It will also help aspiring students learn how to develop games and apps for different platforms like Android, Windows, and iOS.

The lockdown has forced academic institutions across the country to adopt video conferencing. In a way, it also helped the students to acquire basic computer skills.
Considering everything that is going on, it makes sense to give them time to adjust to coding skills at a young age and overcome the usual thinking that coding skills are too hard to master.
