The government has taken measures to award the management of Mattala International Airport to private investors on a 30-year contract.
Accordingly the Cabinet of Ministers has also granted its consent to the resolution in this regard furnished by the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva.
Cabinet Spokesman and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana said Cabinet approval has been granted to entrust Shaurya Aeronautics (Pvt.) Ltd of India and Airports of Regions Management Company of Russia or its affiliated company with the management of the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport for 30 years as per the recommendations of the negotiation committee appointed by the Cabinet of Ministers.
The Minister was speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department.
The approval of the Cabinet of Ministers was granted at their meeting held on January 9, 2023 to call for aspirations from parties interested in managing the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport. Accordingly, aspirations have been called and five institutions have submitted their aspirations.
