For months, he insisted that for his 7th birthday, rather than a typical birthday party, he wanted us to take him to New Orleans. Specifically, he wanted to go to the zoo, swim in the hotel pool, and eat Turtle Soup at Galatoire's.
I had a moment of panic on Saturday morning, as we were getting ready to leave. I knew the forecast was for rain on Friday, and possibly Saturday, in the big easy, but on Saturday morning, I learned there had some flooding in the French Quarter, with (according to the forecast) more rain on the way. I hate more than just about anything to disappoint one of my kids on what should be a special day.
I called the hotel. "No flooding here," the lady at the front desk told me, "and as for today, so far, so good." So we hopped in the car and headed down the road.
We went straight to the zoo, since that was the most weather-dependent activity.
They were much happier than they look here. The SUN was in their eyes, which we counted as a blessing.
Bronson loves turtles...
This guy looks like he hit the salad bar at the cafeteria.
And the primates are a favorite of everyone's...
I didn't even realize what this guy was doing until
I was looking at the pictures later.
He means business!
Then it was time to head to the hotel, and, if the weather was still holding, the pool...
Made it! Still no rain!
And finally, it was time for dinner...
Like father, like son.
The grand finale for the evening...
You haven't REALLY heard "Happy Birthday" until you've heard it sung at Galatoire's, for a 7 year old in a seersucker. Trust me on this.
I hope you had a happy Mother's Day weekend. As for me, I couldn't have imagined a better way to spend it than with these two, and hubs too, of course.
And we didn't even need the umbrella!
For once, I'm so thankful the weather man (or woman) isn't always right.
