On Wednesday, a Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) #5383 non-fungible token (NFT) was sold for 777 Ether, which is about US$1.4 million.
After the deal, the floor price for BAYC fell on Thursday to 69.69 Eth, which is just under $130,000. This is the lowest level since March.
Even though it costs a lot, the golden-haired ape is only the 320th rarest primate, according to Rarity Tools.
“I wanted to collect a golden monkey. 777eth is a suitable price. Yuga [Labs, the creator of BAYC] will be the first successful social [meta]verse,” informed BAYC news source Bored Ape Gazette that Yuga Labs, the company that started BAYC, will be the first successful social [meta]verse.
BAYC is the second best-selling NFT collection of all time, with sales of nearly US$2.3 billion since its release in April 2021.
Still, #5383 didn’t sell for nearly as much as #8817 did, which sold at a Sotheby’s auction in October 2021 for US$3.4 million, which was the highest price ever paid for a BAYC.
Since January, when there were more than 1 million unique transactions, NFT sales have been going down each month. July’s results were the worst in a year, but August is likely to be even worse.
