As the lights dimmed and the music started, my heart started to race as Friday's In the Closet fashion show got underway. I had heard a lot about this event and had very high hopes, but when the men in tuxedos came out and I knew that this was going to be an unforgettable show...
With the tuxedo-clad gentlemen now sitting at a dining room table fit for a queen, underneath crystal chandeliers, Cincinnati's best models (managed by Wings Model Management) walked the square runway to cool, earthy house beats. Tony Tiemeyer of Evolution hand chose every piece in this show to truly represent 20th century fashion. And the love and attention showed as we saw pieces from every fashion decade flow so smoothly together.
Tony says he can't choose a favorite fashion decade as every one of them is special in their own way and, by the looks of it, he definitely doesn't need to pick one now. With a palette of black and white staples, mixed with major pops of color, I was kept on the edge of my seat for the entire show!
After the glorious fashion show, guests were treated to a museum-like exhibit of iconic pieces from Evolution, the Cincinnati Art Museum, and the fashion-forward ladies of Cincinnati. Inspired by a Marc Jacobs editorial in Vogue, Tony chose to place the pieces on construction scaffolding. A perfect contradiction that echoed the use of the stark warehouse as the event’s locale. Among the pieces, a beautifully constructed velvet Alexander McQueen dress was my favorite. The McQueen was especially breathtaking as the dress’s mermaid train cascaded to the floor like water.
Simply put (or maybe not, considering the length of my piece), In the Closet was a night of fashion love and admiration. And most importantly, it was a very successful fundraiser for the Cincinnati Art Museum.
Thank you to Tony and the Cincinnati Art Museum for putting together such a fantastic show and the Lady Vipress for being Ladylike Chic's photographer. To learn more about becoming a Friend of Fashion at the Cincinnati Art Museum, click here.
