In Honor Of Women's History Month - F@#k You, Marissa Mayer

By Guerrillamom @mariaguido
I've decided I have a right to be pissed about Marissa Mayer. And I don't give a shit if no one agrees with me.
First, she becomes the most powerful pregnant CEO on the planet.
Then, she refuses to be photographed pregnant for a Fortune issue on powerful women.
Then, she takes a mother f-ing 2 week maternity leave.
Then, she refuses to be identified as a feminist, saying:
"I don’t think that I would consider myself a feminist. I think that, I certainly believe in equal rights. I believe that women are just as capable, if not more so, in a lot of different dimensions. But I don’t, I think, have sort of the militant drive and sort of the chip on the shoulder that sometimes comes with that. "
Yes, it would be awful to identify with a movement that believes in equality for women. I mean really, how stupid? Who needs it? You don't. You've made it to where you are by getting a huge boost on the backs of women who were unafraid to fight for equality. If the women's movement never existed - you wouldn't be where you are, lady. Sorry.
Being a feminist is really frustrating sometimes. On the one hand, we're expected to support ALL women, right?
Marissa Mayer isn't a woman, she's a CEO. Why is she expected to care about women's issues, women in the workplace, or women in general? Not fair!
But on the other hand, if women who advance in their fields aren't going to fight for us, who is?
Women should be able to be CEO's and take decent maternity leaves without sacrificing their jobs. Women should be able to identify with a movement whose only goal is to lift up women without having a disclaimer.  Mayer, you wouldn't be where you are today without feminism.
So, in honor of Women's History Month, and due to my "militant drive" and the "enormous chip" on my shoulder ... fuck off.
