Story: In Broad Daylight starts when Kay (Yu) goes undercover in a care home and discovers the abusive conditions the residents live in. She wants to turn it into a bigger story, exposing the wider neglect within the system.
However, her story becomes more difficult to write as it is public knowledge the sector is underfunded. Kay must figure out a way to prove the abuse is more widespread than in one home to bring about a change to the system. This sees her befriending a resident Chau Kin-Tong (Chiang) and learning more about his life story.
Verdict on In Broad Daylight
In Broad Daylight is a drama following a journalist looking to prove the systematic abuse within the care system in her country. She discovers the poor standards and abuse the residents are put through. However, the battle to find proof sees endless obstacles placed in her way.
This is a shocking vision of how badly care homes are run. It doesn’t hold back on exposing the terrible conditions, but it shows how most people just turn their heads at the problem. A lot like how Spotlight showed abuse in another system, this does the same thing in a different industry. Jennifer Yu is amazing in the leading role in the movie. In the end, this movie should be watched by everyone, and awareness should always be improved.
