In & Around #London… There Go The Christmas Trees

By Lwblog @londonwalks

Monday is mute on The Daily Constitutional (well, almost mute) – because Monday is the day when we post five images captured in and around London by London Walks Guides and London Walkers.

Collated on a theme or an area, if you've got some great shots of our capital and want to join in send your pictures to the usual address.

The Christmas trees are leaving town…
In Moorgate and Hampstead they're traveling in pairs for safety and waiting for cabs back to Norway (I'd like to see Uber cope with THAT fare!)…

Good luck!
Some, sadly, are not going to make it. This one ended it all in the Regent's Canal…

… this one fell by the wayside on the way down the hill from Hampstead…
Note the couple pushing the pram in the top left of the shot - the toddler in the pram made a strong case for rescuing the tree. Sadly, it fell on deaf ears.
And here's the Daily Constitutional tree on its way to the galvanised incinerator (gulp)…

A quick word on burning Christmas trees…
"It’s better for the environment to burn your Christmas tree than it is to throw it in the bin. According to the Carbon Trust, a real Christmas tree that ends up in a landfill decomposes and produces methane gas which is 25 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide."

And a SAFETY TIP! Do NOT burn your tree on a wood burning stove! This from the Haverhill Echo…
“Burning any kind of wood, other than that which is specifically meant to go on your fire can be very dangerous and this includes Christmas trees… Fir trees, including Lleylandi and all types of Christmas trees shouldn’t be burnt as the sap can turn into creosote, which is like tar and which could easily catch fire inside the chimney."
