The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has issued directives to conduct a prompt investigation into the assault on four journalists and two others of a private media organization by the Police Special
Task Force opposite the Prime Minister’s personal residence on Saturday evening. Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that the IGP and the Police Department express their regret regarding this incident. Thalduwa said that disciplinary action will be taken against that group.Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe also expressed his grave regret over the assault on journalists who were covering the protests.
Four journalists and two others attached to the private media organization were assaulted on Saturday and were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. The IGP has said he will initiate disciplinary action against the officers who attacked journalists.
