Idles – ‘Samaritans’ Video

Idles are an increasingly vital presence in today’s fractured world and we’re all eagerly awaiting the release of their second album ‘Joy as an Act of Resistance’ at the end of August.

‘Samaritans’, the third song to be aired from the record, opens with chunky riffs and ferocious drums before Joe Talbot spits out lyrics about the way men have acted over the years and how the ‘mask of masculinity’ is not doing anyone any favours. It’s the bullshit reason ‘why you never see a father cry’: ‘Man up, sit down, chin up, pipe down… Grow some balls’.

Joe then goes on to state how ‘I’m a real boy and I’ll cry, I lovemyself and I want to try’ before shouting ‘I kissed a boy and I liked it’ following a short breakdown. This is already a live favorite and it’s set to make many more people take stock and hopefully encourage men to change their ways and open up their emotions instead of bottling things inside because of how culture dictates they ‘should’ act.
