Identity of Warlow Revealed on True Blood!

Last night’s episode of True Blood was crazy with Eric making Willa into a vampire, Pam getting caught and taken to that camp, finding out Sarah Newlin is in a relationship with the Governor, the Governor finding out about his daughter, Jessica hurting Andy‘s daughters, and of course the reveal that Ben Flynn is in fact Warlow!!  While there had been some speculation that Ben may be Warlow, once Niall had screened him and he passed most thought it couldn’t be true.  Well last night after Jason collapsed and was ill, Ben bit into his wrist and gave his blood to heal Jason.  It seemed clear from that point that Ben = Warlow and then at the very end when Sookie and Ben were making out on the couch she called him Warlow and told him to get off of her.  Rob Kazinsky, who plays Ben, spoke with TV Guide after the episode aired and talked about how he found out that Ben was Warlow, his intentions as far as Sookie is concerned and what will happen when Bill and Ben come together since Warlow is Lillith’s progeny.

First up Kazinsky reveals that he was not aware that Ben was Warlow when he started on the show.  He actually found out from the costume department because when he went in for his fitting the tag said “Benlow”.  When he asked what that meant they said “Ben/Warlow” so he called the producer to confirm.  His initial reaction was “oh shit” because he had watched Season 5 and he knew how scary and powerful Warlow was.  He talks about the powers that Warlow has and says basically he has the best of both worlds.  As Lillith‘s progeny he is one of the oldest vampires around, but he also is as powerful as the strongest fae.

So the big question is – what does Warlow want with Sookie?  We know that she was promised to him a long time ago but up until now Ben has seemed sweet and harmless.  After having a lot of time alone with Sookie he could have hurt her if he really wanted to but Kazinsky reveals that everything that Ben said so far has been true:

Everything that he says in the first few episodes are not lies. They’re absolute truths. When I said previously that he is the male equivalent to her, he still is. He’s been ostracized not only by humans, but by fae and vampires because he is none of the above and all three at the same time. He’s never been able to be accepted anywhere he’s gone. He knows what he is. He’s a junkie. He’s an addict who hates himself for being an addict. He fights against this inner vampire all the time. Unlike most vampires, he didn’t come from the shade of gray that is humanity. He came from light. He’s a creature of light and goodness. However, he’s corrupted by this vampire within him that he has to fight against every single second of every single day. Everything he said to Sookie about what they are and how they feel, that’s true. He absolutely means it. He has a real genuine fascinating, adoration and love for Sookie.

Kazinsky goes on to say that Warlow is very much a gray character, being both light (fae) and dark (vampire) and that he’s ruled by vampire instincts but he has a good heart and means well.  He goes on to say that Warlow is self hating and struggles constantly within himself but if he wanted to he could unleash an unbelievable amount of destruction.

Given that Niall is the king of the fae and he has been hunting Warlow, how was Ben able to trick him?  Kazinsky says that Warlow has been hiding himself away from the world and has never wanted to be at the forefront of any movements like being the king of vampires.  He hides himself out of fear of hurting people and Rob says the story between Niall and Warlow is very personal and will play out over the course of the next season.  He says Episode 5 will go right into the story.

Now that we know that Warlow isn’t all bad, Kazinsky says that we will get to the bottom of what happened to Sookie and Jason’s parents.  He says that with Niall’s and Ben’s help, and Warlow’s truths, the truth will be revealed and that it is not what people are expecting.  In fact, Kazinsky reveals that once the truth comes out about the how’s and why’s people might be very surprised.

So how does Sookie react to the truth about Ben being Warlow?  Better than you may have expected.

Not with panic. [Laughs] She’s been around a fair few scary vampires. She’s seen a lot and done it all. For the first time in the entire show, she’s ready. She’s prepared and she’s angry. Warlow is confusing because here is a vampire that can walk in the daylight, here is a vampire that is a fae and she has very real feelings for Ben, too. She has to battle against that and reconcile what she sees in front of her with the image that she created of Warlow in her mind with all the stories and the death of her parents. Those are two very different creatures, which is what Warlow is: He is two very different creatures trapped in one body. The way she deals with it is more intelligent than perhaps anything she’s ever done before.

With fae and vampires alike hunting Warlow he is used to fighting back and Kazinsky says that Warlow is prepared for the battle.  But will the vendetta against vampires become his fight?  Not if Warlow has any say in it.  Rob says that Warlow has no interest in vampires or vampire politics and that his only concern is himself and Sookie.  He does reveal however that we are in for some surprises saying:

Being a vampire is not his dream situation, so the way it all comes to pass over the course of the season, what you think is going to happen, will not happen; what you want to happen, it’s going to be better than that.

Sounds interesting!!  Kazinsky also spoke about Bill and Warlow coming face to face and said there will be fireworks.  Since Bill is determined to save all of vampire kind and Warlow is supposed to be the savior but doesn’t want any part of it, it should make for an interesting dynamic!

So Truebies what do you think of all these revelations?  Were you surprised that Ben is Warlow?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment section.  To check out the full interview with Rob Kazinsky, click here.
