Yes I thought the Headline might get noticed as we all want to know how we are doing compared to others, its natural,  yes I will reveal my own blog traffic stats to you as I wish to prove a point. They do NOT matter.

Do you ever wonder how much traffic other bloggers get? Is your traffic low, average or high? Have you any idea? Do PR’s look at your blog traffic? Does having high traffic make you a Top Blogger? Do you even know where your traffic comes from? Are you ever bothered?

I have not found any of the “Top Bloggers” revealing their traffic statistics for me to compare myself too so I am going to break the mold and reveal mine instead. I wonder why they don’t reveal them though?

  • Is showing your traffic stats offending?
  • Is showing your traffic stats bragging?
  • Is showing your traffic stats not relevant?
  • Is showing off your traffic stats helpful to others?

I read an interesting article on Tots 100 when I researched traffic reports for Mummy Bloggers.

You might think top British Mummy blogs get loads more traffic than everyone else. Not so. I looked at three blogs consistently ranked in various top blogging charts, where traffic stats are publicly available (and I don’t mean Alexa stats, which are not a reliable way to assess UK blog traffic). The most popular of these blogs attracted 200 unique daily visitors. The other two attracted 150 and 180 visitors per day, respectively.” The article says.

This gives me a little insight, the top British Mummy Blogs looked at here received 200 unique daily visits – so off I go to Google Analytic s to compare this number to my own.

My Own Stats;

January 2012 – Averaged 419 Unique Daily Visitors

February 2012 – Averaged 704 Unique Daily Visitors

March 2012 – Averaged 531 Unique Daily Visitors

My traffic statistics show that my own blog traffic is twice as much as those “Top Blogs” mentioned. Does this make me a Top Blogger then?

How Much Traffic Makes You Top Blogger?

I have been blogging for 12 months, I do not consider myself a “Top Blogger”. I am very much still learning and I believe the Top Bloggers are those who we see everywhere on every possible blog list.

I am ranked 313 in the Tots 100 list for Mummy Blogs, this puts me in the top 10% of blogs listed with them.

I have recently added my blog to Technorati and I have a blog authority of 433, I have no idea what this means.

I am listed with ebuzzing and my blog ranks 21 in the Parenting blogs and 66 in general blogging.

I work hard, I am dedicated and the blog is my passion, but I do not appear on many blog rolls, my blog has never been selected as a “ Blogger Of The Week” on Brit Mums or in the Tots 100 Ten at Ten, the 2 blogging communities I admire the most – this is either because;

  • Everything I write is crap
  • The bloggers writing the round up list do not read my blog
  • I am not well liked

( I stamp my feet and half cry here, I read every one published and never see my blog) OK after throwing that hissy fit, back to blogging.

Mypoint is I do not have others actively promoting my blog, if I did I am sure my traffic would increase greatly. All my traffic comes from my own hard work. I am active on Facebook and Twitter and I do put in the hours and do so much more than “Just Blog”. Read More About What I Do. I am dedicated.

Does Traffic even matter to a blog?

I do receive a small number of PR requests, I have never been asked for my traffic statistics by them, they seem unimportant to companies and brands wishing to work with you.

It seems PR’s are looking more for a blog that fits in with their product, i.e. children ages and blog related topics. I am guessing that as I am listed as a Mummy Blog, I write mainly about parenting, therefore my readers are parents, which is the targeted audience the PR wishes to appeal too.

Knowing Where Your Traffic Comes From

It is important to know where your traffic is coming from if you wish to improve it.

My Own Traffic; (Jan -March 2012)

62,165 Visits

48,308 Unique Visitors

177,861 Page Views

Where does my own traffic come from? (Jan -March 2012)

Google – 34,590 visits

Facebook – 9,650 visits

Direct Search – 6,611 visits

Twitter – 4,065 visits

Yahoo – 675

Bing – 487

Ask – 247

Netmums – 210

Mumsnet – 206

AOL – 162

I also have a Klout of 82, yes this tells me I have an online reach of 49,000. I have to say having a high Klout score does nothing for me or my blog, I do not get perks or see any benefit of having a high rank here.

You too can now go and compare my own stats to your own if you wish or you can learn from my findings that no matter how much traffic you get, it is you and your voice on the blog that really matters. Your readers will come if you provide what they want.

So if you wonder how much traffic a Top Blogger gets it’s around 200 unique visitors each day.
