So as it happens, I love coconut oil. I love it. I love everything about it. I know I’m a bit late coming to this coconut oil party, but better late than never, am I right? And I’m going to go out on a limb here and admit something while I’m at it. I’ve never cooked with it. That’s right, folks. I love this amazing oil and all there is about it, but I’ve never actually used it to prepare food. Crazy, right?
It all started one day when I was talking with one of my good friends, and she was going on and on about how she adored the stuff, and used it for, oh I don’t know, EVERYTHING. From lotion to a hair mask, to diaper rash for her little one to an energy booster and coffee creamer, this stuff was utilized several times in her daily routine.
I was skeptical, mostly because it’s… well… oil. But I decided to put away my preconceived notions on the evils of oil, and went to the store, and purchased my very own tub of unrefined, virgin, Carrington Farms organic coconut oil. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I know a solid white mass wasn’t on the list. I was confused. By the time I got home, however, the oil transformed from a solid to a liquid. It’s hot out there, people. Apparently the oil remains a solid until it hits around 74 degrees F. Interesting.
Anyway, as soon as I got it home, I was pretty much jumping up and down with excitement over the stuff, and couldn’t wait to slather it all over me. And slather I did. I smelled amazing. I felt really soft. I also think I went a bit overboard and ended up being super shiny and had a very difficult time when it came to answering the door for the UPS man… My hands were just too slippery. Awkward…
After a quick shower and a deft hand, I applied the stuff more gingerly and with more success. I then sat down on the couch with my trusty laptop and got to researching, because that’s what I do best.
Here’s some of the coolest stuff I’ve learned:
It’s the single best eye makeup remover ever. Even for the stubborn waterproof kinds.
Best smelling lotion ever.
Softens skin like nothing else.
Great for under eyes.
Cheekbone highlighter
Coffee Creamer when emulsified
Help increase sun tolerance and prevent sunburn
Rubbed on lips as a natural chap stick
Natural Anti-bacterial
Rub coconut oil on the inside of your nose to help alleviate allergy symptoms
There are so many more uses. Check that out at Wellness Mama!
I also plan on trying to use the stuff in the kitchen soon, using one of these tasty recipes from Whole Foods!
