I Am Monster – Frightfest 2023 Movie Review
Director: Nicholas Vince
Plot: Vince took to the stage in 2019 with his autobiographical one-man-show ‘I Am Monsters!’ Both a resoundingly nostalgic and relatable tale of growing up in love with horror, and an essential discourse on the turmoil of ‘growing up gay’ under draconian Thatcherian rule where the closet was always safest, this is the superb movie adaptation.
Runtime: 1 Hour 11 Minutes

Verdict on I Am Monsters!
I Am Monsters! Is a one-man show by actor Nicholas Vince. It is an autobiographical show, where he gets to tell his story. This gets to follow his life story and how he ended up in Hellraiser. However, this gets to explore his early life and his troubles with understanding how to grow up being gay.
This is a fascinating series of stories from an actor. By diving into his personal life and struggles to find himself in the world. Meanwhile, he gets to dive into the personal stories about the making of Hellraiser and Nightbreed.
This is a perfect way to learn about an actor’s life. By letting them tell their story in a performance that feels like a story helps show their performance talent. As well as showing them in the best moments, defining moments and learning curves. It is wonderful to see how personal this is without it being the ‘it was difficult’ style. This explains it to be the journey that made him gain an audience that loves and respects him.
Final Thoughts – I Am Monsters! Is an engaging, fascinating performance of one’s life.
