"I am a fou de ski," said someone I met, before giving me a long list of his favorite French stations de ski, starting with some I'd never heard of, like Saint-Gervais ("It's the closest to Paris and completely uncrowded").
"Do you always ski in France?" I said.
"I've been to Italy a few times, but sometimes not on purpose!" he said. "In Haute-Savoie resorts, sometimes if you're not careful when you choose a piste, you can find yourself in the wrong country at the bottom!"
"And you don't have a passport!" I said.
"No, it's not that. Your lift ticket doesn't work and you have to buy a new pass just to get back up the mountain!"
