Name a person who doesn't like mangoes. Can't think of anyone? That's because everyone loves mangoes. But if you ask them what's their favourite mango drink, dessert or if they like it as it is, then you will definitely get a number and a variety of answers.
And once you hear them, make sure to tell them all about Hui Lau Shan. Not familiar? Well, Hui Lau Shan is a dessert and refreshment brand from Hong Kong known for its mango creations. In fact, they have over 300 stores globally - China, Malaysia, South Korea, Macau, Canada, Taiwan, Paris, Vietnam and, Melbourne. And now, they are in the Philippines.
When the news broke in the blogging community, I was pretty excited. Mango is our national fruit and its the best fruit because you can incorporate it in your meal, dessert and drink. Sadly, I wasn't able to pass by during their grand opening at SM North EDSA last June 2019 but I was able to visit them last month!
The Shop
Hui Lau Shan has a small shop at The Block, SM North EDSA. Their place is eye-catching mainly because of its bright yellow colour theme. Though it's small, they do provide ample seats for their customers.
The Mangoes
Regarding their offerings, Hui Lau Shan has several refreshments to offer such as juice, jelly, milk tea series, fresh fruit teas, cheesy milk series, and brown sugar milk series. But I wasn't in the mood for those. Plus, I am 100% sure those are all delicious because it's mango. Hello? 🙂
So I asked their staff what they recommend besides their drinks and he said the Mango Mochi. I hate mochi mainly because I haven't tasted one that I enjoyed. But since its mango, I was very positive about this dessert. However, it was quite expensive. It costs PHP 90 for 3 pcs or PHP 160 for a box which contains 6 pieces.
Good thing, the staff informed me that they have a Buy 2 Boxes, Get 1 Free Box Holiday Promo. Since we were looking for additional Christmas gifts, I grabbed the chance.
When I got home and tasted one, I couldn't resist another one. So I also offered it to my Abuelita who hates this type of texture because it's difficult for her to chew but she loved it. Why wouldn't she?
Hui Lau Shan's Mango Mochi is squishy but not difficult to chew. Moreover, it is stuffed with real and very flavourful mangoes and the mochi is covered with shredded coconut. Now I am really excited to try some more of their desserts. For the Mango Mochi, I will definitely buy it again if they have a promo. 🙂
Would you like to try their dessert and drinks? You can find Hui Lau Shan on the ground floor of The Block, SM North EDSA.
Happy eating and/or drinking!
