EMUI 11 Best Features
Multi-window and multi-screen collaboration
Huawei initially introduced the multi-window feature with EMUI 10.1. In its latest update, Huawei made some major improvements, making it easier for users to multitask. For example, you can edit an app in a floating window directly from the recent apps menu. Additionally, the floating window can be resized and reduced to a floating bubble.
EMUI 11 supports opening up to three multiple windows at the same time while using the multi-screen collaboration feature. In addition, the connected device can be used as an external webcam or as a second display for the PC. In the latest update of the Multi Screen collaboration, you can also take calls directly from the PC.
Live Icons
One of the biggest changes in EMUI 11 is the introduction of Live icons. As the name suggests, there are several icons in the EMUI 11 user interface that animate when touched. Live icons are spread across the entire user interface - they can be seen in the notification shade, several default Huawei apps like the Phone app, Notepad app, and more.
The EMUI 11 update also comes with a new synchronized vibration feature that synchronizes the vibrations of the device with the ringtones.
Permanent display
Huawei has invested a lot of time in improving the Always-On Display (AOD) feature. For those who don't know, AOD is a feature that allows supported devices to display the date, time, weather, and other tidbits of information when the screen is off.
In the latest EMUI 11, AOD features several new designs and tons of new customizations. Once you have selected a pattern, you can change its color from the given color palette. You can even extract colors from camera snapshots. Apart from that, you can finally use any image, live video, GIF as AOD design on EMUI 11.
As always, the AOD feature is only available on Huawei smartphones with OLED / AMOLED displays due to their ability to keep lighting specific pixels without turning on the entire screen.
Huawei default apps
Big changes have also been made to Huawei's default Gallery app. For example, the layout of the Albums page has been redesigned. On the photos page, users can now simply pinch to change the monthly view layout to the daily view layout.
You can now create a new hidden album to store sensitive pictures. Huawei said that other apps will not be able to see the hidden album images.
Huawei has also introduced an amazing feature in its default Note chat app. You can now extract text from images in the note taking app. This will save you from having to use a third-party app to do the same. There is also an option to create a hidden memo.
Privacy Features
Huawei also introduced some privacy features in its latest EMUI update. You will now be notified if apps are using sensitive permissions behind your back. This is similar to the microphone and camera access directions in iOS 14.
There are new permissions and an option to remove EXIF data from images while sharing them. We will update this article as soon as we get our hands on the first beta of EMIUI 11.
At the conference, Huawei also announced the highly anticipated HarmonyOS 2.0. The internal operating system is an alternative to Android from Google. Huawei said that most of its smartphones will use HarmonyOS by 2021 and that "devices running the new distributed technology EMUI 11 will be eligible for upgrades to Harmony OS."
