How to Whiten and Soften Your Yellowed Towels

Over time, white towels inevitably begin to lose their softness and appeal. Thus, over the uses and washes, they end up yellowing which considerably alters their appearance. No need to worry though, since it is possible to fix it. Explanation.

One of the many properties of this ingredient is its ability to whiten laundry while removing stubborn stains. Moreover, your yellowed and rough towels will become softer.

For this, pour 2 to 3 tablespoons of baking soda in the drawer of the washing machine as well as in the drum of the washing machine. Then run a wash cycle suitable for towels. These should come out both soft and whiter.

If you prefer hand washing, prepare a basin of water then dissolve the same quantity of baking soda in it, namely 2 to 3 spoonfuls, before soaking the yellowed towels in it. Then let it act for 3 hours or even overnight. The next day, all you have to do is place the towels in the washing machine and start your usual washing cycle. The towels should therefore regain their softness and whiteness.

If you don’t have baking soda, white vinegar can also be used as a fabric softener and degreaser. In question, its ability to soften the fabric of the towels. Moreover, the latter is considered a remarkable whitening and deodorizing agent. For that, pour half a cup of white vinegar into a basin of hot water and soak the towels in it yellowed. Leave on for a few hours before washing your items in the washing machine as usual.

Other natural ingredients to treat yellowed and rough towels

Your yellowed towels can also benefit from the benefits of other natural products, other than white vinegar and baking soda.

Lemon for whiter towels

Lemon has a place of choice, with regard to the treatment of linen. For good reason, it can restore shine to yellowed towels. To achieve this, place them in the washing machine and pour a mixture of half a glass of lemon juice and half a liter of water into the detergent drawerthen run a wash cycle suitable for your towels.

If you want to wash them by hand, pour into a bucket, a liter of boiling water to which you will add two lemons cut into slices. Then soak the yellowed towels in the solution obtained and leave to act for 1 hour before placing them in the machine and starting a wash cycle.

Citric acid to whiten yellowed towels

We cannot mention lemon juice without mentioning the component that characterizes it so much: citric acid. It is found in large quantities in citrus fruits. If your washing machine is prone to limescale, residues of the latter can come to settle on your towels, citric acid will help in this case, to remedy this.

For that, pour 8 tablespoons of citric acid inside the drum of the machine then run an empty wash cycle. Therefore, not only will your towels be whiter, but you will also prevent the formation of limescale in your washing machine.
