Whatever you call it, there’s no denying it, athleisure wear is here to stay, and is now replacing denim as the go-to for everyday casual looks for women.
I’ve joined forces with the team at Active Truth to show you how to mix and match their Ultimate Full Length Tight with some great new trends and classic wardrobe pieces for outfits that will take you from the Pilates studio to the supermarket and everywhere in between.
Plus, if you can bend and stretch and work out in something, you can sure as hell get sh*t done, catch up with your friends, and dance and romance in them!
And no matter how you feel about activewear outside the gym, I’m pretty confident there’s an outfit idea here you’ll love.
FROM BARRE TO BRUNCH
I like my athleisure to keep in with my normal style, so my favorite look is to pair my tights with a striped tee, and add a top layer.
Not sure where to begin? Simply throw a chambray shirt, bomber or denim jacket on over your t-shirt or singlet, or tie a one around your waist, swap your sneakers for a pair of casual shoes (think espadrilles or sleek metallic sneakers) and grab a bag. This will instantly take your look from bikram or dance barre to brunch and everywhere in between.
Personally, if I’m not working out, I like to keep my butt covered which is why I default to lightweight jackets, shirt or longer tee, but if you’re comfortable showing off your butt, go for it!
If extra coverage is what you’re after but it’s too hot to add extra layers (hello Queensland!), try a tunic or top that is longer at the back than the front. And when it comes to accessories, keep it simple with a bright bag and a pair of sunglasses.
FOR THE OFFICE
You can get away with sneaking active elements into your work wardrobe, if you choose wisely. The key to transitioning athleisure pieces into your office work wardrobe is to pair them back with more traditional office attire.
Start by teaming a pair of leggings (opt for a solid color as they’re more likely to look like pants) with a longer shirt or blazer, add some low heels or a nice pair of ballet flats and you’re ready to go.
When it comes to accessories, keep you jewelry simple with a thin chain necklace or a couple of thin bangles. Add a structured bag or tote in classic black or nude, or if you’re like me and can’t resist a pop of color go for something bright.
FOR A NIGHT OUT
Dress up your tights with a statement necklace and a fitted blazer or shirt; or steal his shirt, add a statement necklace (or a bow tie!) and throw on your heels.
You could also glam it up and make a statement by teaming your tights with an embroidered or sequinned kimono, like I’ve done below, or tunic. Add some sexy heels, bold lips and a clutch bag, and you’re ready to go.
