Do you ever wake up in the middle of the night, having dreamed of some elusive item that you suddenly HAVE to have? That can't just be me, right?
Um...anyway, the other night I dreamt of one particular piece of clothing that I have always hated: the denim dress. But not just any tacky denim dress; It was a shirt dress, almost a wrap really, in a worn blue with rolled up sleeves, hitting just above the knee. I am now on a mission to find this dream dress. But once I find it, how do I wear this denim shirt dress without looking like a dowdy country bumpkin? First, I'm ditching the word denim in favor of "chambray." If I know anything about fashion, it's that sometimes re-branding is the chicest thing you can do.
So far, the closest piece to my dream was at Banana Republic on Newbury St., but I hesitated and now can't find it online. The next best option is this belted chambray dress by Joie. I like the simplicity and can't you just imagine a lazy stroll through Paris, picking up a bouquet of peonies in this dress?
To keep things easy, I'd pair it with a Panama hat and flat, color blocked sandals in a similar shade. I'm loving orange right now so I have my eyes on J.Crew's Panama Hat in Natural Peony and Dolce Vita's Fabric Fur Trim coral sandals. Although, I have to admit that the crazy fashion blogger in me really wants to wear this dress with Stuart Weitzman's ubiquitous Aphrodite Gladiator Sandals but I'm trying to be practical here.
I love the idea of a surprise print (instead of a pop of color) for accessories which is why I'm obsessed with Clare Vivier's Foldover Clutch in Black Mini Spots. It's gold medallion will go perfectly with the two gold cuffs (Giles & Brother Crystal Encrusted Cortina Cuff and Michael Kors Heritage Open Cuff) on my left wrist. Because every outfit needs a little bling.
What do you dream of wearing this summer?
