How To Use Smart Tags In OptinMonster
For the Smart Tags feature, you might need to purchase the Pro or Growth plan. You can buy OptinMonster using your PayPal account or Credit Card. Once you have purchased the plugin, you can start building new campaigns, integrating smart tags inside it.
Log in to your OptinMonster account for creating new campaigns. You will see a create a campaign button on the right-hand side.
From there, you can pick your campaign type.
Campaign types available in OptinMonster are:
- Popup
- Fullscreen
- Slide-In
- Floating Bar
- Inline
- Gamified
Etc.
You can choose any campaign type for creating your optin. The best ones that will bring the most user attention are the fullscreen popup and the Popup.
Now, it is time to select a campaign template.
OptinMonster comes with hundreds of pre-made campaign templates. You can select any of them and start customizing them. On the other hand, if you choose the blank template, you can create your own custom design.
The best way to save some time is, selecting the pre-made templates and adjusting the font, colors, and design elements. You can always use the filters for better search optimization. If you are targeting mobile users with the optin, make sure that you have turned on the mobile-optimized template option.
Select a template you would like to use.
After that, you have to name your optin and select the websites you are planning to use. You can add any name you would like. This won’t be visible in the frontend.
Click on the Start Building button, and you will be redirected to the OptinMonster campaign builder.
Now, we are good to add smart tags to our optin. The first thing you need to do is, add a text element to your optin or edit an existing one. If you have selected a premade template, you have something to edit.
If you check the above screenshot, you can know we will edit the Limited Time Offer text. Thankfully, OptinMonster comes with a drag and drop optin building experience that will make the job easy for us all.
If you take a close look at the OptinMonster editor, you will see an option with two curly brackets.
The development team already assigned all the available smart tags inside it and you can select your preferred one from there. The active smart tags inside OptinMonster are:
- {{day}}
- {{month}}
- {{year}}
- {{date}}
- {{city}}
- {{state}}
- {{region}}
- {{regon-code}}
- {{postal-code}}
- {{zip}}
- {{country}}
Once you have selected a smart tag, the live optin will show you the exact value in the frontend.
If you check our example, we have mentioned the {{date}} smart tag inside our content. So, when the optin goes live, it will show the date on the frontend.
If the tag can’t find the required information, it is always good to assign a backup option. If you check the below screenshot, you can see that we have added TODAY as our backup option.
What happens now is, if the system can’t find {{date}}, it will show today’s date. This is actually a great idea.
Once you have edited your template and customized it, you need to save it. Turn on the optin for making it live. On top of that, you need to install, activate the OptinMonster WordPress plugin for embedding the optin on your WordPress site.
