With over $400M raked in already, How To Train Your Dragon 3 may just be on it’s a way to showing all the rest of the animated movies this year, just how to get things done.

Okay, I will admit it, I wasn’t one of those people who watched the first two installments of the movie trilogy. That isn’t to say that I had not seen bits and pieces of it from all the times that it has played on the cartoon channels in my house and my three sons caught it. It intrigued me, but it wasn’t something that I said to myself that I had to sit down and watch. Oh, how wrong I must be.

I went into the theater with an open mind. The several times that I saw a preview for this movie I thought it did look cute. I really loved the courting dance scene which never failed to make me laugh. But, by the time I left the theater, I was in full How To Train Your Dragon mode. I had to go watch the other two movies. Okay, in all honesty, I haven’t watched them yet. I did just get in the DVD I ordered that has the first two movies a few days ago. It is something that I do want to see, but I just know I’ll be upset that I can’t finish it with the third installment that I just saw until it is released May of this year.

I found this movie to be super entertaining. I would definitely put it up there with how wonderful I found Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse. Because this movie made me laugh, cry and actually wish that it wasn’t over by the time it finished.

It gives us the story of growing up and finding the courage to let go. To face the unknown. What started as an unlikely friendship between a young Viking (voiced by Jay Baruchel) and a fearsome Night Fury dragon has now come to its conclusion with Hiccup and Toothless leading the village to somewhere unknown to save the dragons and find a place that only myths tell about at the end of the Earth. But it isn’t until that you’re willing to let something, or someone, go that you love so that they can find their own happiness, that you will truly find out how strong you are.

My sons gave this movie a resounding 9 to 9.5 stars out of 10. I want to give it a 10 but I also want to see how their full story unfolds before going that far. So, as of now, I will let my stars stand to the side of my sons’. This is definitely one of those movies I will be buying for my movie collection and I hope that if you don’t get a chance to see it in theaters, that you will consider that option as well.

Have you had a chance to see this movie? Do you think it is as good as Spider-Man? Even better? Will this be something that you consider adding to your collection? Tell the answers to those questions and more in the comments below.
