Kimonos are the perfect summer layering pieces for cool days (and freezing indoor temperatures) while adding a pop of interest to a look. It can get too hot to over-accessorize in the summer, making kimonos the perfect way to add some tsjuz without effort.
How to Style Kimonos this Summer
While kimonos have been around a while, many other silhouettes have changed and you might be trying to figure out how to make the kimonos in your closet work. Take a look at some fresh ways to style kimonos this summer and shop for more styles at the end of this post.
Outfit #1
I styled this first look using a kimono from Alice + Olivia that I paired with a pair of white wide-leg cropped jeans from Madewell, navy linen tee from J. Crew, soft blue wedge sandals from Cobb Hill, yellow crossbody bag from Ted Baker and blue novelty pendant from Cos.
Outfit #2
Don’t forget, prints can be used like little road maps for adding color to an outfit. Using the colors in this kimono from Trouvé, I added these cocoa ankle length pants from Eileen Fisher, a white t-shirt from Rag & Bone, and orange block heel sandals from Sbicca Sheffield. I finished the look with a tan crosbody bag from Nordstrom and moon and star necklace from Sterling Forever.
Outfit #3
Kimonos make great swimwear cover-ups. This is a great packing light solution for vacations. You can wear a kimono from the beach to the street. I styled this yellow Free People kimono with a bikini from Land’s End (link to top, link to bottom), turquoise beach sandals from Aetrex, graphic beach tote, sunglasses from Junia and cabana striped beach towel.
Outfit #4
I styled this floral kimono from Nordstrom with a pair of kick crop jeans from Everlane and a grey tank from Treasure & Bond. I finished the look with a pair of silver metallic flat sandals from Lucky Brand, hobo bag from Rebecca Minkoff and novelty necklace from Chico’s.
Outfit #5
Kimonos aren’t just for pants, they can work well over dresses too. The trick is getting the proportion right. Kimonos also don’t just come in prints. I styled this black kimono style jacket from Eileen Fisher with a coral shift dress from Theory. I finished the look with sand suede sandals from 42 Gold, a turquoise clutch from Leith and beaded statement necklace.
