How to Sprout Mung Beans?

We often hear of sprouts being very healthy and all that, but have you ever wondered if it is really worth all the hype? Here’s the answer – YES! Sprouting beans makes them more bio-available – which means they are better absorbed by the body. Learn how to sprout mung beans by yourself at home with this easy recipe!

Sprouted grains of any kind will pack in a fat nutritional punch in your recipes and this recipe aims to do just that. Mung beans are low in calories, high in fiber as well as Vitamins B, C and K. Just imagine all the goodness you get when these nutrients are more easily absorbed by your body!

How to Sprout Mung Beans?

Ingredients:

  • Mung Beans

Method:

1. Select good quality whole mung beans which are uniform in size and color. 

2.Take the amount of mung beans you want to sprout in a plate. Look for very small sized beans (which generally don’t work for sprouting) if any.

3. Pick and clean the mung beans. Now wash the beans in water thoroughly.

4. Put the mung beans in a bowl. Add enough water, about 1 inch above the mung beans, and cover it.

5. Soak the beans overnight. Next day the mung beans will swell .

6. Drain all the water from beans, wash the soaked beans once and drain again.

7. Take a clean kitchen napkin or a cotton cloth and keep the soaked mung beans in the cloth.

8. Tighten the cloth. Sprinkle little water over the cloth so that it is becomes moist. Keep it in a covered container for 1-2 days. Make sure the cover is not very tight.

9. After one day, you will see small sprouts and they will grow after 2 days. The sprouted beans stay fresh in the fridge for up to 2 days.
