Multitasking helps to boost productivity. Splitting your screen on a Mac can help you multitask. Here, we have discussed how to split-screen on a Mac.

Multitasking means doing multiple tasks simultaneously. On a device such as Mac, this could mean performing different tasks at the same time on different windows. You can be writing your work report, leave a chat window with a friend open, or see a movie in the midst of this.

Imagine doing all of that on a full-screen. You would agree with me that it can be very stressful. However, by splitting your screen, it becomes easier and better.

The Mac split-screen mode allows users to stick two apps on different sides of the display screen. It also supports two separate browser windows. This will help you to move easily between windows and tabs saving you the stress of navigating with a mouse or pressing Command + Tab. The split view can be used on macOS Catalina or later.

How to Use Split View on a Mac

First, ensure neither of the windows you want to use in Split view is in full-screen mode.

  1. Open either of the windows and place your cursor over the green button in the top left of the window. Rather than clicking to maximize the window, continue hovering until you see a drop-down menu.
  2. From the dropdown, choose Tile Window to Left of Screen or Tile Window to Right of Screen.
  3. Now, your Mac will automatically enter split-screen mode. And the Window will fill half part of the screen. You can then click the window you want to show on the remaining half of your screen.

  2. you can now choose a second window to be added to your split-screen.

You can also use the slider at the centre of the screen to adjust the size of your windows for convenient multitasking.

Also, to use more than two windows in split screens, you need to manually resize each window to allow three to four of them on your screen at the same time.

How to Exit Split Screen on Mac

When you're done using the split-screen and would like to get out of it, here is what you should do.

  1. First, move your cursor to the top left of either of the windows to see the sizing buttons.
  2. Next, click the red button to close the window or rather, the green button to exit the split-screen. The window still remains open but will be hidden in full-screen mode. To display it, just press the Mission Control button (F3) from the top row of the keyboard.
  3. Now, two options will be shown at the top of the screen. These are the Desktop and the other window in split-screen mode earlier. Click the window and use the green sizing button from the top left to exit full-screen mode.
