Apple has brought a lot of changes with the iOS 10 and messages app has got the most important ones. You can now run apps inside your iMessage app. Another very helpful very important function added is location sharing option to the Messages app.
So next time when a friend of yours asks “Where are you ?” or you are typing “I’m at” iOs identifies it automatically and lets you share your live location in Messages. Of course it only works when you’ve already given relevant access permissions to the app and will only work with iMessages. Listed below are a few pretty simple steps that you can follow to share your live location in Messages.
How to Enable Location In Messages on iPhone
In order to enable location in messages on iPhone, you just need to follow the below steps:
- Open the Settings app
- Go to Privacy
- Go to Location Services. Turn on the location Services, in case it’s not already on
- Tap Location Services
- Enable “Share My Location from the next screen” in the next tab
You can see the list of people/devices that can see your location here, once you start sharing live location in Messages.
Just on more step before we’re done. Now return to “Location Services” > Find the Messages App from the list. Tap it > enable “location sharing when the device is in use.”
That’s it you’re done!
How to Send Current Location In Messages
You’re all set to share your current location, now that you’ve enabled the settings. In order to send your current location, just type “I’m at” or ” I am at” in messages and you’d see a “Current Location” right there in the conversation thread.
Additionally, whenever you get an iMessage that reads “Where are you”, iMessage app will automatically share your location with the sender with you even needing to intervene or select anything on the screen. The Messages app will automatically revert without you even reading the message.
How to Share Live Location In Messages
Another feature here is that the Messages app allows you to share your live location with any contact that you wish to. It allows you to share your location for one hour, until the end of the day, or indefinitely. This feature can be very helpful in case you feel that you’re insecure going to a specific location or you’re visiting a new location.
To enable this feature, you need to first enable the location sharing system service. Here’s how you can do that:
- Go to Settings App
- Tap Privacy > Location Services
- Tap “System Services” at the bottom of the list
- Enable ‘Share My Location’
Once this is done, head on to the Messages app and select the contact that you want to share your live location with. On the top right, in the conversation thread, tap on “i” button and next tap on “Share My Location”. Select the duration you want to share the location in the pop-up option box. The recipient will automatically get a notification alert that you’re sharing your location with them.
