After announcing its plan to update the Gmail interface in February this year, Google is now rolling out the new Gmail user interface widely to all users. The new interface consists of dedicated tabs for Mail, Chat, Spaces, and Meetings on the left sidebar, which can be very annoying for many users.
If you find these extra tabs distracting, you'll be happy to know that there's an option to turn them off. In this article, we have detailed how to remove Chat and Appointments tabs from Gmail on the web, Android and iPhone.
Enable or disable the new Gmail experience
1. Open the Gmail website and click the gear icon " Settings " in the upper right corner of the screen.
2. When the quick settings panel appears, click " Try a new look for Gmail to enable the new Gmail experience.
3. When prompted for confirmation, click " Refresh ' to activate the new Gmail view.

Disable Chat and Spaces from Gmail Sidebar (Web)
1. Open the Gmail Quick Settings page by clicking the settings gear icon in the top right corner.
2. Then click " View all settings ' to go to the Gmail settings page.
3. When you are on the Gmail settings page, switch to the " Chat and meetings " on the top navigation bar to disable chat and spaces.
4. Select the " Off." next to "Chat" and click " Save Changes ". This will remove chats and spaces from the Gmail sidebar in the new user interface.

1. To remove Chat and Spaces from the bottom navigation bar in the Gmail mobile app, tap the hamburger menu in the top left corner of the screen and select " Settings ".
2. Select the email account for which you want to turn off the chat feature and uncheck "Chat" under " General " Settings.
Remove Meet from Gmail mobile app (Android and iPhone)
1. To delete the Google Meet section in the Gmail mobile app, you must first access the settings. Tap the hamburger menu in the top left corner and select " Settings " at the bottom.
2. Select the email account for which you want to remove the Meet tab, and then uncheck " Show Meet tab for video calls ". And that's it, you won't find the Meet tab in the Gmail mobile app anymore.
