How to Reach in Sikkim

Sikkim is a picturesque Himalayan state and also a major tourist destination for travel and tourism in North East India. It is bordered by Tibet the Autonomous Region of China to the north, Bhutan to the Southeast, Nepal to the west and West Bengal to the South. Sikkim is well known for its eco-friendly tourism and for its incredible contribution to the tourism, so that tourist who visit this region once, would surely love to come back again and again.
Well for those who are planning to visit this little hamlet of paradise in North East India would surely have question in mind, how to reach? To reach Sikkim is quite easier, though it does not have its own airport and railheads.


Air is the most convenient means to reach Sikkim as Bagdogra is the nearest airport, which is located at a distance of 124 kms from the capital city Gangtok. Once you reach Bagdogra, you can hire private taxi or shared taxi to reach Sikkim. More of all, Bagd0gra airport is well connected to rest of the cities and states of India either by connecting or direct flights.

NJP and Siliguri Railway Station is the nearest railhead that is well connected to the major cities and states of India and is the nearest to Sikkim. NJP is 117 kms away from Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim and once you reach here, one can hire shared taxi or private taxi to reach Sikkim.

By Road

Travelling by road to Sikkim is an awesome experience as you get to enjoy the picturesque appeal of the nature and the roaring Teesta River. NH 31A is the lifeline of Sikkim as this is the only major road line that passes from West Bengal and connects to Sikkim. From Siliguri it takes around 3 - 4 hours to reach Sikkim.

Helicopter service is also available and it takes only around half an hour to reach Gangtok in Sikkim.
