When you're used to using handy features in an app, changing their location can be frustrating.

Or, if your current location is somewhere you might accidentally click on or you're having trouble accessing, you might be looking for another option.

The Microsoft Outlook Quick Access Toolbar is located above the navigation ribbon by default.

However, you have the option to move it below the ribbon if you prefer that option. Our tutorial below will show you how to make this change.

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Click the "File" tab.
  3. Click the Options button.
  4. Select the Quick Access Toolbar tab.
  5. Check the "Show Quick Access Toolbar" box below the "Ribbon" field.
  6. Click OK.

Our guide continues below with more information on how to move the Outlook Quick Access Toolbar below the ribbon, including images of the steps.

The Quick Access Toolbar is a series of small icons that appear in the upper left corner of the Outlook 2013 window. This toolbar provides one-click access to many of the features you may use frequently in Outlook 2013.

However, you may also find yourself accidentally pressing some of these buttons when you didn't mean to. This place can lead to false clicks, which can be frustrating if this happens to you with some regularity.

Luckily, Outlook 2013 has the ability to move the Quick Access Toolbar below the ribbon. This results in the toolbar remaining in an accessible location, but placed in a location where it is less likely to be accidentally clicked.

Frequently asked questions about changing the position of the Outlook Quick Access Toolbar

Is it possible to move Outlook tabs to a different part of the screen?

Yes, there is an option to move Outlook tabs down, but whether you can use it will depend on whether you are in normal or safe mode in Outlook.

You can start Outlook in safe mode, making sure it's closed, then open the Run Windows tool by pressing Windows key + R, then type outlook /safe in the box and press Enter.

In safe mode, you should see tabs at the bottom of the screen. Note that as soon as you close it and reopen regular Outlook, the tabs will return to their original position.

Is there a way to put the Outlook ribbon on the side of the screen?

Unfortunately, there is no option to move the Outlook ribbon to the side layout you may be looking for.

The new version of Microsoft Outlook has significantly changed the layout of Microsoft Outlook, and many of the navigation options are on the side of the screen next to the folder list.

If you prefer this layout, you may want to consider upgrading to a newer version of the one you are currently using.

Where is the option to move the Outlook sidebar down?

With the Outlook layout update, the navigation bar is now on the left side of the window.

Depending on the version you are currently using, you can use the safe mode trick above (by pressing Windows + R to open the Run command, then using Outlook/Safe to start the application in safe mode) to move the sidebar to the bottom.
