How to Make Your Swimsuit Last Longer

By Swimsuitsdirect @Swimsuitsdirect

It doesn’t matter how often you go swimming. How well you care for your favorite colorful tankini will determine how good it looks when you go to wear it. Here are a few tips you can use to keep your swimsuit looking good for many years to come.

1. Presoak

Presoak your new swimsuit in a solution of one tablespoon of white vinegar and a quart of water for 15 to 30 minutes to set the colors in so they won’t fade or bleed from use or washing later on.

2. Rinse Your Swimsuit

Rinse your swimsuit thoroughly after leaving the beach. It doesn’t matter if you went swimming or sunbathing. The chemicals from the pool and the oils from your lotions and sunblock can damage your swimsuit the longer they remain on it.

3. Gently Wash

Always hand wash your swimsuits if possible. If you are not able to hand wash, set your washing machine to delicate before washing them in it. Always use a mild detergent or hand soap to prevent fading.

4. Don’t Wring or Stretch

Avoid wringing and twisting your swimsuit to remove excess water from it. Don’t ever hang up your swimsuit while it is wet either. This can actually stretch your swimsuit out of shape. Instead, place your suit on top of a towel and gently roll it up while gently pressing on it to remove any excess moisture. Then lay your tankini on a flat surface or sweater dryer away from direct light and sunlight to dry.

5. Use a Towel

If you plan to sit on the sand or something rough, make sure you sit on a towel. Sand and rough surfaces are really abrasive and can rip and tear your swimsuit. You can also protect your swimsuit by wearing and sitting on your cover up.

6. Change Suits Often

Avoid wearing the same old swimsuit every time you head to the beach or pool. Purchase more than one so you can change them up to keep your swimsuits from prematurely wearing out.
