How to Limit Your Social Media Addiction

Social media is growing every moment, even as we blink our eye. It helps you connect with the people you have not contacted in a long time as well as meet new people who you share some common grounds with. Social media opens a whole new world for you where you can do things that are not possible in real life because of physical or financial limitations. The social revolution has definitely been a blessing but it is also true that every blessing used beyond a certain limit turns into a curse and so is the case with social media.

We see social media addicts everywhere, tapping away, happily, on their smartphones, tablets, laptops or desktop computers. Technology has done nothing to curb this addiction. In fact, it has helped it grow. Now, one is bound to carry the social media, wherever they go.

Let’s look at ways in which we can put the social media addiction to a stop.

Have a plan

Have a definite plan of how much time you will spend on the social networking websites. Decide what you will do once you are on the social media. Follow this plan very strictly if you are adamant to give up on your social media addiction. Once you follow it regularly for some days, you will get a hang of it and it will eventually become a part of your daily routine. Following this routine diligently will not only help you save time but also increase your productivity levels?

Set time limits

If the routine doesn’t suit you, try setting a time for the use of social media. It can be 10 minutes after every 2 hours or maybe half an hour in the entire day. This depends on your circle of contacts and how often you need to connect with them.

During the time you have allotted to networking, do everything and anything that you can do when you are procrastinating but once the limit nears its end, then start skipping things. Close the webpage as soon as the time is over. People often tend to take no serious action against social media addiction but the fact is that this is having negative effects on a large part of the population. Setting time limits to the use of social media is going to restrain you from viewing webpages of networking sites, time and again. Follow the time limits you have set for yourself religiously, not faltering even a single time.

Ask yourself

One of the best ways to get rid of social media addiction is to let the reasons absorb. Ask yourself questions yourself like what are your reasons behind excessive usage of the social media? What benefit are you getting from it? What are you losing on?

Once you find answers to these questions, you will begin realizing that when it comes to social networking websites, your loss is much greater than your gain. You can, then, decide for yourself if your time and resources are worth it or not.
