How To Grocery Shop For Weight Loss

I have met very few people who enjoy taking time out of their day to go grocery shopping. Most people I know can give me an endless list of things they would rather be spending their time on. Unless you have enough money to hire someone to do your grocery shopping for you, you will be finding yourself in the supermarket. Save time and learn how to grocery shop for weight loss.

Make A List

Lets start off with making a list. This will save you time from wandering around the store picking up items that you do not need. Stick to your list, get in and get out. Your list should contain all of the servings required for each meal you have planned out for the week. This will have you saving money on foods that will not be eating or having you eat too much. Have you ever gone shopping hungry and the next day you ask yourself “why did I buy this?” It happens all the time and it has been shown that if the food is in the house it will be eaten. Your home is the safe place. Only have food that you need for your weight loss goals.

I want to be honest, you get what you pay for with food. It might seem like it is expensive to eat healthy. If you only purchase what you can eat for the week you will save extra money. Think about how much money you will save on junk food for the week. I have had clients say they can not believe how much money they save not going out to eat and buying junk food. Also in the long run you will be spending less on managed care.

Where Are The Healthy Foods Located

You will find that the healthiest foods are located along the periphery of the store. This is where the produce, meats and dairy are located. In between are aisles filled with sugary, high carbohydrate, high fat, highly processed foods. The only time you want to step foot in these aisles are to get the healthy food on your list, such as tuna, beans and whole grains. Once you have what is on your list get out of that aisle. The colors and packaging make the items attractive for you to buy. Keep in mind on what’s inside of those nicely packaged items. Keep your head down and run.

Local Farmers Market

Shopping for your fruits and vegetables at a local farmers market will give you the best fruits and vegetables that are in season. You can not beat the taste of fresh in season fruits and vegetables. You will find that many items might be cheaper than your local grocery store. These items will be healthier too. They will be packed with more vitamins and minerals than the ones in your supermarket.

Serving Size

The last thing you need to be aware of are the serving size. Look at the labels and only buy what you need. If you find that it is cheaper to buy in bulk make sure that you separate the items into servings when you get home. This will prevent you from just grabbing and eating. It will also save you time on your daily food plans. Everything will already be prepared in serving sizes.
