How to Get the Most out of Your Family Trip to Orlando

Taking the kids to Orlando? You’re sure to have an amazing trip. Of course, there are a few things you need to know if you’re going to ensure your vacation goes smoothly and doesn’t break the bank.

Here’s how you can get the most out of your family trip to Orlando:

Create a strategy

Orlando is one of the best places for a family trip, with fun for people of all ages. But the best way to make the most of your trip is to research in advance and consider what types of activities your family would like to do. While the theme parks are a big draw, your kids may also like to visit the Kennedy Space Center, Gatorland, Kissimmee, or some of the many museums. Obviously, your biggest issue will probably be narrowing down the activities so you can create a fun trip that still has enough downtime for you and the kids to rest and relax. The best way to do this is to start talking about the different things to see and do well before you arrive- that way you know everyone is on the same page and ready to explore.

Consider renting a car

Orlando is a sprawling city, and many of the main attractions are located all over the place. This is why you may want to rent a car in the airport, and drop it back off when you fly out. Not only will this make it easy for you to immediately get to your hotel where you can dump your bags and relax, but you won’t need to worry about public transport, shuttles, taxis, or Uber. This type of freedom really can’t be underestimated when you’re traveling with kids- especially if those kids are young and need to be back at the hotel at a specific time for an afternoon nap.

Get a Nanny

Sometimes, it’s nice for mom and dad to go out for dinner and a few drinks while the kids are sleeping. This means that you’ll be able to reconnect and enjoy some time away from the kids. There are some great professional babysitting services to choose from in Orlando, including the Babysitting Company and Kidz Night out. Both will come to your hotel to watch your kids, and all babysitters have been trained in CPR and individually screened (including background checks). Just make a reservation and enjoy some of what the city has to offer adults.

Choose the right time

Before you plan a trip to Orlando, be sure to check the weather. If you’ll be visiting the theme parks, you’ll probably want to choose a time of the year when it’s not too hot and crowded since no one likes standing in the heat for hours at a time. Not to mention, Orlando definitely has a rainy season and if you don’t choose your visit well you may end up standing in torrential rain.

One of the best times is to visit in the fall after the summer holiday crowds have left and it’s a little cooler. This is a good time to visit since the Magic Kingdom Halloween Party and the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival are also taking place.

Plan a road trip

If you book a rental car in Orlando, not only is it easier to get around and see the sights in the city, but you can also get out of Orlando as well. There are many great places to visit both locally and within a few hours drive- including the Everglades, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Key West.
