Your windshield wipers are squeaking: what to do?

Although inconspicuous, car wipers largely determine our safety. Especially when the weather conditions are unfavorable. But how to make them last longer and always remain as efficient?

Windshield wipers are essential in every car. On rainy or snowy days, we can count on them to have better visibility on the road. It is therefore important to take good care of it. Unfortunately, over time and through lack of maintenance, they end up wearing out and no longer performing their task properly. Certainly, if you notice a low noise when handling them, it is quite normal, especially if they have not been used for a long time. But if this noise is continuous and it repeats itself systematically as soon as you activate your windshield wipers, then there is a problem. Between the squeak and the dirt that prevents them from working deftly, do not wait to remedy the situation. No question either of making incidental expenses. Unless they are really in bad shape, there are always solutions to try. Especially since even new wipers can also end up squeaking and smearing water on the glass.

  • Remove the wiper.
  • At the very top, between the curved part of the arm, insert a screwdriver or wrench.
  • Using the principle of leverage, slightly rotate or pull the arm in the opposite direction of rotation. Above all, be careful not to damage it. The idea is to make sure the arm fits perfectly, parallel to the glass, and not at a slight angle. This inclination may cause squeaking and the wiper may spill water all over the windshield.

NB : at any time, if you feel that something is wrong or bothers you in your car, go to a specialist to check if there is not a breakdown or any defect. And this, even if the problem seems benign to you. Remember that a perfectly functional car guarantees driving safety!

Windscreen wipers: Where does this annoying noise come from?

This annoying sound is completely normal when the glass is not too wet or the wiper has been standing still for a long time. But if it turns out to be recurrent with each use, then it is very likely that it results from the wear of the arm. Over the years, if you do not handle them gently, the windshield wipers can become deformed and no longer work properly on the windshield. As a result, the rubber part will be tilted instead of pointing forward: it will no longer collect water properly and will emit an annoying sound. In this case, if the mobile arm seems really defective or too deformed, it is better to replace it with another brand new and operational one.
