The Instagram mobile app is down. This was due to a bug which affected some users. Even though some users cannot send messages, there are other cases of users not receiving messages.

Kindly note that Instagram is not the only app facing this issue. Two other Meta apps, including Facebook and Messenger, are also experiencing downtime.

However, before you assume a bug causes the issue, it may be a different case for you. For example, if you send messages on Instagram repeatedly, you may temporarily be blocked from Messaging.

This is a result of security in place on the platform. When the system detects unusual activities, it could think you are a bot and suspend your account temporarily from sending and replying to messages.

A block by the system for unusual activities only lasts for 24 to 48 hours. So, you may need to wait until your account is unsuspended.
