Due to the popularity of my post last week on the easiest way on earth to build a capsule wardrobe and create multiple stylish outfits, I thought I would challenge myself this week to see if this same approach could be used with accessories. Seeing that accessorizing is tough for most women, if this challenge was a success I knew that you would want to know about it.
To quickly recap how this process of getting more out of your wardrobe and creating a tight capsule works, basically, you start with one outfit and, to create a second look, take one piece from the first outfit to create a another new ensemble. From there you take a piece from the second look to create a third, and so on and so on. Last week I did this with clothing and this week I am doing it with accessories. In each new outfit, I will be taking an accessory from the previous look to use it to create a whole one, and so on.
Check out the five outfits below on how you can get more use from the jewelry, shoes, scarves, bags, and more, that you own.
How to Create Multiple Stylish Outfits Using Accessories
Outfit #1 Here is the first look using this maxi dress from J. Crew. To it, I added this bib necklace from Stella & Dot, a pair of flat sandals from Nine West, turquoise bag from Gabriella Rocha and bangles from Nordstrom.
Outfit #2 In this second outfit I took the same necklace from the first, this Stella & Dot bib. Here it is used in a completely different way, with a pair of pants in cardamom from Theory, a white sleeveless tunic from Modcloth, a cropped navy cardigan from Nic + Zoe, navy flats from Calvin Klein and a gold cross body bag.
Outfit #3 Using the navy flats from the last look, I styled them here with this red summer dress from Boden. Finishing the outfit I added this printed scarf from Zappos.com, a navy leather bracelet from Banana Republic and white handbag from Botkier.
Outfit #4 Even though this look and the previous one is totally different in style and color palette, I can use the scarf in both places. Here it goes to work with this s ea green blazer from J. Crew that has been layered over a simple white cap sleeve top, soft plaid navy pants from Reiss, a navy handbag from Coach, earrings from Macy's and honey colored shoes from Clarks.
Outfit #5 This last outfit is accessorized with the same shoes as used in the last look. Here they are styled with a black work dress from Modcloth for a pop of color, a gold multi-layered necklace from Stella & Dot and basic black bag from Brahmin.
If you have a bunch of accessories in your wardrobe that you don't feel you getting the most from give this exercise a try. It may not only inspire you to accessorize more while also realizing that you don't need a lot of your clothes or accessories to create multiple stylish outfits.
