About

The universe was obviously looking out for How Sad this week when it gave us this late summer heat wave just in time for the MOKB premiere of the band’s music video for “Indian Summer”.  Much to our delight, the eponymous single features some eccentric individuals playing a show in a dusty backyard — you might be surprised, but these hip senior citizens are not the actual members of the band.  The song is a reflection of long lost times of youthful merriment, and despite the bedraggled (yet still glamorous) expressions of the video’s characters, you can tell they’ve had their share of fun. The cold veneer fades away, and they realize they can revisit their mirthful pasts. Lovers of all sorts embrace, as the characters continue to mouth along “take it back take it back take it back…”

How Sad has a knack for writing songs that overflow with sincere, pure celebration of life. “Indian Summer” is still whimsical in its reflectiveness, going back and forth between falsetto, anthem-like chanting, and the lower, main melody of singer Harris Shper. It’s drums are heavy but not oppressive, maintaining the lightheartedness that the band portrays so well. In live performance, they radiate all of these exuberant qualities with energetic charisma.  Watch the video below and watch out for more from How Sad.
