What are the factors responsible for YouTube earning?

Revenue is calculated based on many factors:

  • Monetization: - It is important that your video is user-friendly and eligible for monetization as you will not earn a single penny if your video is not enabled for monetization.
  • Content type: - The content you create should be engaging, informative and entertaining.
  • Region: - The country from which you belong decides the amount you will get paid. For e.g. in India, you get Rs 1 per 10 views. However, in the USA you get 3$ per 10 views. The regions where your videos are being played is also crucial. For e.g. if you watch a Taylor Swift video in Bangladesh, her Vevo channel will get slightly less as compared to the viewer in the USA.
  • Ad revenue: - YouTube will pay you only if it earns. YouTube takes 45 % of the money paid by the advertiser. That means you get 55 % excluding tax.

How much does Advertiser pay YouTube?

Ad companies pay by Cost Per Click (CPC) or Cost Per View (CPV). Cost Per Click is when an advertiser pays money based on clicks. So if a particular keyword has CPC of $3 and someone clicks on that ad, it will charge that advertiser $3.
Whereas Cost Per View is when an advertiser pays money based on views. A view for the advertiser means the viewer is watching the ad for at least 30 seconds or half of the ad (whichever one happens first).
There are certain algorithms used to determine whether the ad count is valid or not. For e.g. if you view an ad many times from same IP address, it is not counted, and the advertiser pays no money for it.
Hence, on average, in India, 1 Rs is paid per 10 views, and you don't get money in your hand before it is $100 i.e. Rs 6000 total. That means you require at least 40,000 views or clicks on the ads to earn some money.
