WhatsApp, the most popular instant messaging application in the world, offers multiple interesting features for users of Android and iOS operating systems. What are they exactly? And how do you know who blocked you or who archived your chats? Here are some leads.

Everyone already knows the option called “Block contact”. As the name suggests, it blocks certain users (who have your number) from trying to reach you through the app. In other words, even if you are in their friends list on WhatsApp, if they have been blocked, they will no longer be able to send you text messages, photos, videos, voice notes or other stickers. They are thus banned from your discussion circle, until you unblock them again, if you wish.

Not many people know about this other option, but you also have the option of archiving chats. Concretely, you can hide certain annoying or abusive conversations, coming from certain people who bore you with messages (but whom you cannot block) or from untimely groups that you cannot leave. The advantage with this feature is that you do not receive alerts or notifications from said chats, even if you have been tagged during a conversation.

So, obviously, when you yourself take the initiative to block someone or archive a talk page, you always have your reasons which you fully assume. But the converse is less obvious. Being a “victim” of a blockage is not always easy to accept. Especially since the blocking is always done without your knowledge and the application does not warn you when it happens.

However, there is always a way to find out. If you have an eye for detail, you can easily try to find out if you have been blocked, archived or if this person is simply ignoring your messages on WhatsApp. There are indeed relevant signals that can put you on the alert. Here are a few :

  • When you send a message, only a gray checkmark appears. This is not an infallible proof, since this kind of context happens when the person has a connection problem. But if you find that there is no change for a long time, there is reason to ask questions.
  • To check if there really has been a blockage, try adding this contact to a group of which you are the administrator. If an error message appears, it is undoubtedly an irrefutable sign.
  • Likewise, if for a few days you can no longer see their profile picture, status or connection time, it is very likely that you have been blocked.

Good to know : If you notice that the two gray ticks are obvious, that the person is online often, but they still do not answer you after several days, they are simply ignoring you. Impossible that she missed your messages, since as soon as she enters WhatsApp, you appear at the top of the chat. She probably muted you by archiving the chat. In other words, she has received your messages, they may have even been read, but she does not want to reply to them yet. It’s very annoying, but you have to make up your mind!
