We’re just weeks away from the PS5 launch, leaving many gamers waiting at the door for their preorders to arrive. But, what does the next-gen console mean for Sony’s VR headset? Here’s how to use PlayStation VR on the PS5.
PlayStation VR is Sony’s virtual reality kit designed to bring VR experiences to PlayStation consoles. At £299.99, it’s easily the most affordable of the big three VR headsets on the market, beating out the Oculus Rift by £100 and the HTC Vive by £300. We loved PSVR on the PS4, awarding it a glowing five star recommendation in our review, and were happy to learn that the PS5 would continue to support the tech.
Sony confirmed that the PS5 would be compatible with PSVR in an FAQ published earlier this month, revealing that “yes, PlayStation VR games are included among the thousands of PS4 games that are playable on PS5”. PSVR will even see improvements on the PS5, with select VR games expecting to see faster and smoother frame rates on the new console.
So, how will it work? And, what do you need to set it up? Keep reading to find out how to use PlayStation VR on your PS5.

How do I use PlayStation VR on PS5?
The good news for anyone already playing PSVR is that there’s no need to pay out for any extra kit.
All you need to buy to access PlayStation VR games on the PS5 is the same PSVR headset and PlayStation Camera for PS4 required for the older console. You’ll also need to get your hands on a PlayStation Camera adapter. Luckily, you can request your adapter directly from Sony with no purchase required. It’s a small annoyance but a necessary piece of kit as the new HD camera for PS5 is not compatible with PSVR.

Sony also recommends you stick with a DualShock 4 wireless controller rather than the next-gen DualSense option for the best PSVR experience. That said, some games will require the PS Move motion controllers or the PSVR Aim controller, so be sure to check the requirements before picking up a new game.
It’s also best to check that games are actually compatible with PSVR before you pick them up. Sony recently admitted that the PS5 versions of Hitman 3 and No Man’s Sky will not include the same support for PSVR that the PS4 versions do.
“We have not announced PS5 titles for PS VR”, the spokesperson said in a statement published by UploadVR. Thankfully, you should still be able to access PSVR on PS5 via PS4 titles, due to the next-gen console’s backwards compatibility for the VR headset.
