Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome, or PCOS is a peculiar situation in which the hormones are completely imbalanced. This syndrome creates problems for a woman’s monthly periods which can lead to infertility, if not treated in time. Women with PCOS can experience unwanted problems like abnormal hair growth, obesity, and gaining extra weight. These symptoms, if not treated immediately, may lead to diabetes and heart disease due to the growth of bad cholesterol. Hence, real-time treatment should be taken to avoid long-term complications.

It has been observed that one out of every fifteen women face Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome.

Impacts of Heavy Androgen

Hormonal imbalance triggers other hormones to change and in turn they impact the remaining hormones. This is how the process of hormonal imbalance takes place in PCOS. In Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome, androgen production will be slightly more than the usual production and this small change causes ovulation to stop.

The other consequences of PCOS are acne and abnormal hair growth on face, belly, chest and back. Contrary to this, hair on the scalp will thin down and look like bald hair. Insulin is also not used appropriately and because of this, blood sugar level goes up.

Does PCOS Lead to Breast Cancer?

Women with Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome will have a maximum of 9 periods in a year, which is not a good sign for the health. There is also a concern among many women that women having PCOS will more likely get breast cancer. As of now, there is no positive answer to this. So, women with PCOS need not bother about the fear of getting breast cancer.

However, as this is an unusual disease, which affects the well being of women perennially, essential care must be taken to ensure that, they keep up their health by following sound physical exercises and diet patterns.
