Hotel Review: Novotel Amsterdam City
Amsterdam is one of the most vibrant, colorful and fun cities in Europe. While Amsterdam is still a popular destinations for backpackers old and young and while each city has its thumping nightlife, Amsterdam has much more to offer than what you might have heard. We spent a few days in Amsterdam recently, and while we absolutely loved exploring the downtown area, we were excited to book a stay at the Novotel Amsterdam City, which is a short train ride outside of the city center.
iMac computers grace the lounge area which invite guests to lounge, peruse the internet and relax in the lobby area. Check in is done via personal reception booths which are manned by extremely helpful staff armed with not only all the information you would need about the hotel but about everything Amsterdam you would want to know. Different from many other European countries, the Dutch learn English in school which is a welcome relief to those English speakers traveling through Europe used to getting lost in fast speaking Italians or Germans.
“Business casual doesn’t quite do Novotel justice as they take it a step further with precise and beautiful placement of design elements and splashes of color throughout the entire hotel…”
The rooms themselves are tasteful, comfortable and contain the same simple design elements to make the Novotel feel just that much more modern and special. Nespresso coffee makers in each room made us fee at home and the splash of color in the throw pillows helped to liven up what could be a traditional feeling hotel room. We especially loved the TV speakers in the bathroom ceiling, nothing like listening to the news while in the shower! The internet is decent and good enough to keep you connected during your stay. One of the best features of the hotel are the free apples offered daily outside the elevators on each floor. It really is the little things that make a hotel stay memorable!
The hotel is complete with a full fitness center, classy bar, high class restaurant, full room service menu, conference center, coffee shop and gift shop. There is even a kids play room complete with play toys for the younger children and an Xbox for the teens. A stay at Novotel Amsterdam City is a wonderful one of the best ways to enjoy Amsterdam if you want a classy business casual environment a short train ride from the city center. The hotel is a quick 3-5 minute walk from the metro stop or a lovely 20 minute stroll into town. While sometimes it is nice to be in the center of town, a beautiful hotel in a relaxed and stylish setting slightly out of the middle of town is sometimes a wonderful choice and for us, it gave us the chance to get some work done in a comfortable and colorful setting while allowing us easy access to the wonders of Amsterdam a short ride away.
Rooms start at 99 euro and include free high speed internet.
