Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road: Hotel That Tells a Story

By Thelostboylloyd @lloydthelostboy

In my search for great accommodations in Bangkok, I came across one of the city’s newest offerings, Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road, which combines the uniqueness of a boutique hotel and the conveniences of a chain hotel. I absolutely loved its concept as a “neigbohorhood hotel,” the quality of its rooms, and its friendly service. Read more…

LOCATION

Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road is located along one of the city’s major thoroughfares in the center of the city. It is ideal for both leisure and business travelers, for it is within the central business district and near to various shopping centers, restaurants, and attractions.

Accessibility is not a problem, as the BTS Skytrain Ploenchit station that links most of the city is only five minutes away by foot, and plenty of taxis and Uber cars ply the area.

STYLE/CHARACTER

It can be said that of all the brands under the InterContinental Hotels Group, Hotel Indigo has the most character. After all, its boutique properties globally deliver “a refreshing and inviting guest experience that is truly reflective of the local community.” None of its hotels are ever the same.

The design inspiration for Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road was conceived with the neighborhood in mind. Wireless Road or Thanon Witthayu (literally, radio road) is where the first radio station was built and the first transmission was aired during the reign of King Rama VI.

This heritage is wonderfully reflected throughout the hotel. Its exteriors are adorned with structures reminiscent of radiowaves and morse code, while its inner public spaces are peppered with locally-inspired artwork, art installations, and murals that serve as conversation pieces. Its open-air corridors with vertical gardens were inspired by the iconic Lumphini Park nearby.

ROOMS

Rooms are as whimsical and colorful as the rest of the hotel. It combines vintage design with a vibrant color palette, as quirky art and accessories make the room even more attractive. Of course, inspirations from the story of Wireless Road were weaved into the aesthetic.

The Tonson City View Room, where I was billeted, features an outdoor lounge area, and it has conveniences expected of a high-end hotel, starting with the cozy, plush bedding. The bathroom is spa-inspired, and it comes supplied with bath amenities by local brand Panpuri.

FACILITIES

The hotel’s modern facilities include a state-of-the-art fitness center, a hip meeting room, and an infinity pool that offers a stunning city view. The hotel also houses the bespoke 22 Steps Bar.

FOOD AND DRINK

Metro on Wireless, an all-day restaurant that maintains a breezy atmosphere, serves a tasty breakast spread of Western, Asian, and Thai items from both a buffet and a sit-down menu.

SERVICE

Its “neighborhood hosts,” are young, fun, and friendly. Aside from handling requests efficiently and with a smile, they could give recommendations on where to sightsee, dine, and shop.

VALUE FOR MONEY

Rates at Hotel Indigo Bangkok Wireless Road are surprisingly affordable and competitive with other boutique hotels. And with its overall quality, it’s a great value for money choice.
