Hot Fudge Sundae Cake Pops

By Ty Watson

Cake pops are one of those treats that always look so fun and delicious but often look a bit intimidating when it comes to making them look cute. I'm also not so sure I'm crazy about the crumbled cake and frosting mixed together that makes up a traditional cake pop. You take all that sugary sweetness and then dip it in more frosting or sugar and my teeth hurt just thinking about it. Ouch!

Here's an alternative that is much easier, looks imperfectly cute, and is still sweet but from chocolate instead of frosting. The cake inside this chocolate candy coating is moist and light rather than dense or mushy. It's a must try!

INGREDIENTS & SUPPLIES:

* 1 box white cake mix
* 1 package dark chocolate candy melt (or dark chocolate)
* 1 package white chocolate candy melt
* 1 jar marashcino cherries
* lollipop sticks
* donut hole baking pan
* mini cupcake wrapper

Preheat the oven according to cake mix packaging.

Spray donut hole baking pan with non stick baking spray. Prepare cake batter according to package and fill each hole of baking pan approximately 1/3 to 1/2 full. Bake for 10-12 minutes in preheated oven. Remove from oven, cool for 15 minutes in pan. Remove from pan and allow to cool completely.

Once cake balls have completely cooled, insert a lollipop stick into each one and place in freezer for 20-30 minutes.

While cake balls are chilling in freezer, melt dark chocolate candy melt according to package instructions. Remove cake balls from freezer and coat with chocolate candy melt. Set each cake pop upside down into a mini cupcake wrapper. Place a maraschino cherry into the melted chocolate. Allow chocolate to completely harden.

While dark chocolate hardens, prepare white chocolate melt. Fill a piping bag or sandwich bag with the melted white chocolate, snipping off a very small tip of the bag (or corner of sandwich bag) and drizzle the melted white chocolate over the cake balls. Allow the white chocolate to harden and enjoy!

The chocolate candy coating will actually keep the cake inside moist for days so this is an ideal treat for making up ahead when you have a lot of other party preparations to do.
